(January 15, 2010) -- For the past two weeks, supporters of the left have been encouraging residents of the Nebi Salah village to block the main road to the Neve Tsuf - Halamish community. Nachi Eyal, chairman of the Legal Forum, warns that if the IDF does not stop this incitement, innocent people will be hurt and left-wing extremists will succeed in igniting the area.
Forum attorney, Shimrit Alkalay, has requested immediate distancing orders against two left-wing extremists who are well known to the authorities and are responsible for previously inciting demonstrators to violence.
The Legal Forum has also requested that the IDF prevent the weekly roadblock and prepare in advance for the possibility of violent demonstrations in the area. Alkalay wrote that "the left wing activists and local residents who block the main road leading to Neve Tsuf cause great distress to the residents of neighboring communities, violating their right to freedom of movement. In addition, the demonstrators' violent attacks on IDF soldiers and attempts to enter the community itself present a grave danger to the Neve Tsuf residents and their visitors."
The Legal Forum claims that the IDF knows in advance when the road blocks and civil disturbances will occur but continually fails to prevent them. The Legal Forum is demanding that the army prevent the busses from bringing the demonstrators to the area.
